New Chobi Acquisitions

Chobi's are characterised by handspun wool rather than machine spun wool and vegetable dyes instead of chemical dyes.

If you're looking to update and revitalize a room in your home quickly, easily and inexpensively, consider using a Chobi carpet. While area rugs serve a practical function as a floorcovering, a Chobi has the ability to instantly warm the room up. They add dramatic color and design to every room. You can change rugs when the seasons change and take them with you if you move.

The Chobi rug derives its name from an area largely settled by Turkomen tribes from Afghanistan. The rugs in our Chobi collection, which are sometimes also called Peshawar rugs, are made with natural dyes and Ghazni wool handspun by Turkoman weavers. These rugs are often distinguished by their exquisite use of 100% natural (vegetable and mineral) dyes. Chobi rugs often have abrash (or varying shades of the same color) through the pile of the rug, and the colors are often muted, both of which are a result of the use of natural dyes and handspun wool. The wool comes from Himalayan sheep and is hand-spun and hand-knotted with great care and marvelous craftsmanship. Natural dyes produce soft luminous shades and abrashes not possible to obtain from chemical dyes. The influence of Persian, Turkoman and Afghan cultures results in rugs of great complexity and superb coloration. These rugs are new and clean, never used, and are in perfect condition.
